Sea World of Texas
Originally, the designers of Sea World of Texas contracted the park’s massive awning project to another company. When the original contract fell through, architects employed by Sea World contacted the Chism Company with a request to manufacture and install the three acres of shade structures before the park opened in 97 days.
Drawing on its long and varied experience in the shade industry, The Chism Company delivered, completing the installation two days before Sea World of Texas opened. The mutual cooperation and flexibility of all parties, including Sea World staff, architects, and construction supervisors allowed Chism Co. to rework some of the original designs for speedy construction and call upon outside construction resources for irregular and uncustomary installations.
Completed work at Sea World of Texas included aluminum framed vinyl entrance canopies, the award-winning tension structure spanning the marine mammal petting pool, and backlit interior awnings for the midway section.
The Shops at La Cantera: Phase I and II
The Chism Company’s work at La Cantera is a more recent example of our production scale and speed-to-market capabilities. Builders of the open air shopping mall contacted the Chism Company for the fabrication of its 200 awnings. The project was completed in 32 days from start to finish and 3 days ahead of schedule. Since our initial work in 2005, Chism Co. has worked with La Cantera in the addition of further shade structures.
Texas Lion’s Camp Outdoor Theater
Chism Company’s fabrication of the unique shade structures at the Texas Lions Camp is an excellent example of our ability to work closely with architects and designers in realizing innovative and unusual projects. Architects from the San Antonio based firm, Marmon Mok, were given the challenge of developing a shade structure that would not obstruct the audience view of the stage or disturb the open-air feel of the amphitheater. Marmon Mok’s unique design of the cable and post supported shade panels emerged from a sophisticated GPS and computer modeled study of the sun’s path over the theater space during times of heavy use (May and June). The Chism Company worked with Marmon Mok to develop the component parts and engineering that brought their conceptual design to life.
North River Yacht Club
The pagoda structure over the patio of the North River Yacht Club in Tuscaloosa, AL is a hallmark of the Chism Company’s ability to engineer and fabricate large scale, non-typical pre-engineered structures unencumbered by our distance from the customer or jobsite. The pagoda, with its 70 ft. clear span, was developed at the Chism Company using architectural CAD (Computer Aided Design) software.
